DJI Inspire 3

Why this platform

The Inspire 3 is our cinema workhorse, carrying the full-frame Zenmuse X9-8K Air on DJI's CineCore 3.0 platform. It records 8K Apple ProRes RAW and CinemaDNG internally, offers 14+ stops of dynamic range, and supports the full DL-mount prime lens range we have available: 18 / 24 / 35 / 50 / 75 / 90 mm. Dual native ISO (800 / 4000) makes it equally at home in bright daylight and dusk interiors. This is the option to choose when the aerial footage needs to cut seamlessly into a Netflix- or theatrical-spec edit.

"I fly with my own camera operators — we've built up a lot of experience together as a team, and it shows in the final footage. If budget is tight I can also operate the Inspire 3 with one of the camera operators already on set, provided they have drone camera experience."

  • Full frame above 30 fps uses a different sensor readout: dual native EI 320/1600 instead of 800/4000.
  • For fast action in 8K, ProRes RAW above 30 fps keeps rolling shutter lowest.
  • ProRes 422 HQ bakes in D-Log/D-Gamut — the simplest pipeline for most edits; RAW for maximum grading latitude.
