The two questions we get most: what does it cost, and how soon can it happen? The honest answer is that it depends on the shot. That is why we do not publish standard prices. What we do show here is what sets the price of a drone day, how much preparation each situation needs, and how to get a tailored quote quickly.
What sets the price of a drone day
Drone and camera
The platform sets most of the price. A DJI Inspire 3 with 8K full-frame is a different job from an FPV cinelifter or a heavy-lift drone carrying your own ARRI, RED or Venice and lenses.
Crew
A pilot only, or also a camera operator running the gimbal separately from the pilot, a spotter and an RT operator. That follows from the shot and the airspace.
Airspace
Free airspace is the simplest. Inside a CTR around an airport there is a request with LVNL and usually an RT operator on set. From 26 November 2026 that lapses in part of five CTRs.
Permits and exemptions
If the flight falls within our ILT authorisation, no separate application is needed. A drone above 25 kg needs a TUG per province, with provincial fees that differ per province.
Length of the day
Half or full shooting day, overtime and a recce beforehand if needed. We follow the Dutch film industry's Fijn Weekend agreement.
Travel and special conditions
Travel time and mileage to the location, and work that needs extra preparation: night flights, offshore, indoor or several locations in one day.
More on the airspace side: CTR zoning from 26 November 2026 and the RT operator. On heavy drones: filming with a drone above 25 kg.
Drone or helicopter?
A drone is usually the more economical choice and can do what a helicopter cannot: low over water, through a window, between buildings and close to the action. A helicopter is stronger at high altitude, over long distances and at speed, and can keep a heavy camera airborne for a long time. On large productions they often work together; then we coordinate drone and helicopter in one plan.
See aerial coordination.
How to get a quote fast
- Location(s), as precise as possible
- Shoot date and, if possible, a backup day
- The shot or shot list: height, movement, distance to people and buildings
- Camera and lenses, if you want your own camera flown
- Whether there will be public or traffic nearby
With that information you usually have a tailored quote the same day, including what the production needs to arrange itself. So there are no surprises afterwards.
Frequently asked questions
What does drone filming cost?
That depends on the drone and camera, the crew, the airspace (inside a CTR a request and usually an RT operator are added), any exemptions, the length of the shooting day and the travel distance. Because every production is different, we do not publish standard prices. Send the location, date and the shot you want; you usually have a tailored quote the same day.
How far ahead should I book a drone?
Outside controlled airspace it often works within a few days. Inside a CTR the request must be with LVNL at least 48 hours ahead; a week is better. For Natura 2000 areas and heavy-lift above 25 kg, count on several weeks. The earlier you call, the more options.
Is a drone cheaper than a helicopter?
Usually, and a drone can go closer, lower and between buildings. A helicopter stays strong for high altitude, long distances and speed, or when a very heavy camera has to stay airborne for a long time. Often the combination works best; we coordinate that too.
What is in a Skymotion quote?
Pilot and crew, drones and camera, flight preparation with risk assessment and NOTAM check, the LVNL request inside a CTR and the RT operator when needed. What the production arranges itself, such as a cordon or consent from a landowner, we list clearly.
What happens in bad weather?
Rain and strong wind don't mix with drones. For steady images we keep to about 8 m/s (Beaufort 4), less between buildings. So ideally agree a backup day in advance; the day before, we look at the forecast together.
What do you need for a quick quote?
The location (as precise as possible), shoot date and any backup day, the shot or shot list, the camera if you want your own camera flown, and whether there will be public or traffic nearby.
