Logistics hub on the Maas and the German border, with the Greenport, the rail terminal and the Maasduinen. In Venlo we shot for logistics and the rail terminal; the city itself lies in free airspace, the border requires attention.

Venlo lies outside the Dutch CTRs. A few kilometres east, German airspace begins with the CTR of Niederrhein airport (Weeze), where German rules apply and our authorisation does not automatically count. We fly on the Dutch side and keep the border on the map in view.

How we arrange a shooting day in Venlo

Authorisation and requests

We fly under our Specific-category authorisation from the Dutch ILT; outside a CTR no request with air traffic control is needed.

Local agreements

On company sites and the terminal we coordinate with the owner; in the city centre with the municipality of Venlo. For the Maasduinen and other Natura 2000 areas the production has to arrange the site manager's permission. Shoots across the border require a German application, which we discuss separately.

Planning

Often planned within a few days; for events and city-centre shoots a little earlier because of the municipality. If the shot requires a street or square to be cordoned off, we flag that well in advance so the production can plan for it.

On the shooting day

We arrive on set on time, brief with the director and DOP, and you watch live on the monitor. Then we fly until the shot is in, while a spotter keeps an eye on the airspace and the surroundings.
